چکیده

ABTRACT The use of recombinant genetic technologies for population manipulation has mostly remained an abstract idea due to the lack of a suitable means to drive novel gene constructs to high frequency in populations. Recently Gantz and Bier showed that the use of CRISPR/Cas9 technology could provide an artificial drive mechanism, the so-called Mutagenic Chain Reaction (MCR), which could lead to rapid fixation of even a deleterious introduced allele. We establish the equivalence of this system to models of meiotic drive and review the results of simple models showing that, when there is a fitness cost to the MCR allele, an internal equilibrium exists that is usually unstable. Introductions must be at a frequency above this critical point for the successful invasion of the MCR allele. These modeling results have important implications for application of MCR in natural populations.

Multiplex Tetra-Primer Amplification Refractory Mutation System Polymerase Chain Reaction to Genotype SNP8NRG221533 of Neuregulin-1 Gene

Schizophrenia is a severe neuropsychiatric disorder with symptoms such as hallucination, delusion and mental disorder. It is a complex disorder, in which genetic components play a crucial role in its pathogenesis. Among candidate genes for schizophrenia, Neuregulin 1 (NRG1) gene is the most important gene,  association of which with the illness has been confirmed in several studies. Single nucl...

Cloning and expression of Iranian Turkmen-thoroughbred horse follicle stimulating hormone in Pichia pastoris

Background: Follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) plays an essential role in reproductive physiology and follicular development. Objective: A new variant of the equine fsh (efsh) gene was cloned, sequenced, and expressed in Pichia pastoris (P. pastoris) GS115 yeast expression system. Materials and Methods: The full-length cDNAs of the efshα and efshβ chains were amplified by reverse transcriptio...

Genetic analysis of pike-perch, Sander lucioperca L., populations revealed by microsatellite DNA markers in Iran

This study was conducted in order to investigate genetic diversity and population structure of pike-perch in the Northern part of Iran. For this purpose, 207 adult pike-perches from four regions of the Caspian Sea watershed (Talesh Coasts, Anzali Wetland, Chaboksar Coasts and Aras Dam) were collected. DNA was extracted and by using 15 pairs of microsatellite primers, Polymerase Chain Reaction (...

Association of P53 (+16ins-Arg) Haplotype with the Increased Susceptibility to Breast Cancer in Iranian-Azeri Women

Background:Many case-control investigations have showed the correlation of TP53 gene polymorphisms with the risk of breast cancer. However, the findings are not consistent. It has been suggested that the investigation of P53 genotype combinations and haplotypes may be more helpful than the detection of single polymorphisms. In the present study, we investigate...
